Hiding a file in a jpg pictures

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

This can be done on Windows XP and Vista, as shown in this guide, but it can also be done in other operating systems, such as Linux, using different commands.

First, make sure you have installed winrar on the computer.

  1. Gather the files you wish to hide (.txt,.avi,.wmv ..etc) and compress the files into one file using WinRar.
for example, give the name sample.rar
  2. Prepare an image file (.jpg)
for example, give the name picture.jpg
  3. Put the file (sample.rar & picture.jpg) in the same place/folder.
    example c:
  4. Click [Start] then [Run] Type CMD into the "Open:" input box, and click [OK] This opens the command prompt. At the directory prompt, type:
    c:\>copy /b picture.jpg+sample.rar results.jpg
    and press Enter.
  5. Now there will be a new jpg file with the name results.jpg
and the jpg file looks exactly the same but the sample.rar are hidden inside it and its size increased by the size of the sample.rar/hidden files.
  6. To access the hidden files within the JPG picture. Simply right-click on the picture, choose "Open With", "Choose Program..", then select "WinRar". OK
We still can see the jpg files, hidden files and extract it as usual.

Hopefully useful
